The following link brings you to the University of Calgary’s Digital Portal.  In their Local Histories section, they have kindly accepted to store our 18+ digitized Plamondon History Books:  https://digitalcollections.ucalgary.ca/plamondon

Open and Close the Books

  • After you click on a book that you wish to look at, a smaller window will appear over the main book page. This is the reading pane.  
  • When you wish to close the book, click on the “X” in the top right and you will be back at the main book page.

Search for Text in all the Books

  • On the main book page, key a search term in the search box and click on the little magnifying glass or press Enter.
  • The books that contain that search term will be listed.
  • After you click on a book to open it, you will be brought to the page where the first occurrence of that search term is found.
  • To find more occurrences of that term, click on the magnifying glass
    • Key the term into that box
    • Click on the little arrow pointing down.

Observe the Different Sections in the Reading Pane for a Book:

  • Menu Items on top of the book: Hover over each of them to learn what they do.
  • Click on the >> icon, to see more menu items, along with their meaning.
  • The “Switch to Reading Mode” allows you to expand the reading pane, to see a larger image of the book. To close this window, press the “Esc” (escape) key.  Another alternative is to move the cursor above the book until an “X” appears.  Click on it to return.
  • In the top right corner, there are 2 numbers, eg: 3 of 19.  In this example, 3 indicates that you are looking at the 3rd book out of 19 in the collection.  Clicking on one of the arrows or replace 3 with another number which will cause the next book to open.
    • The “Switch to Reading Mode” allows you to expand the reading pane, to see a larger image of the book.
    • To close this window, press the “Esc” (escape) key.
    • Another alternative is to move the cursor above the book until an “X” appears. Click on it to return.

Download

If the book is downloadable, you will see the icon, along with the word, “Download” under the book pane.  You can download the book to your computer.  Once there, you can choose what pages you wish to print, if any.
