Newspaper Search

Peel’s Prairie Provinces’ historic digitized newspaper collection (https://archive.org/details/peel_newspapers) features over 175 titles from 1870 to 2018, including the following 3 French language newspapers, in which Plamondon was reported on many times:

  • La Survivance
  • Le Franco-albertain
  • Le Franco

Copy and Paste the following in the long Search box that is located in the middle of the page:

  • Plamondon AND subject:(“Franco (Edmonton, Alta.)” OR “Survivance (Edmonton, Alta.)” OR “Franco-albertain”)
  • Below the box, click on: Search Text contents
  • Press Enter or click on Search this collection
    • In the result list, click on the edition for which you wish to see the details.
    • In the reading pane, if there is more than one reference, you will see that number in white, in the bottom black bar.
    • Click on the right arrow next to it, to see the next occurrence.
    • Alternatively, you can scroll in the left panel to directly access a reference.
    • To print all or a few pages, click on the Download icon on the left side. (It is a downward arrow pointing to a horizontal line).
      • Click on: PDF
      • The PDF file will open in the browser.
      • Click on the printer icon (usually to right) and choose which pages to print or print the entire file.
      • Alternatively, or in addition, you can download the whole file to your computer, by clicking on the Download icon next to the printer icon.

Map Search

Peel’s Prairie Provinces’ historic digitized map collection (https://archive.org/details/wcw_peel?tab=collection) features over 858 maps including the two Lac La Biche Lake river lots maps.

Scroll down the list or search for Lac La Biche:

  • In the long Search box that is located in the middle of the page, key: Lac La Biche
  • Below the box, click on: Search Text contents
  • Press Enter or click on: Search this collection
  • In the result list, click on the map for which you wish to see the details.

The two river lot maps (“Plan of lots 1 to 41” and “Plan of lots 42 to 79”) were scanned at their original size: 30.71 x 22.33 inches. They can be downloaded and printed in their original size on a large format printer.

The links provided above, are the Peel’s newspaper and map sections, at the non-profit Internet Archive (www.archive.org) website for which all the Peel collections are being migrated to.
