School District

In 1910, Dellamen Plamondon at the age of 12, was placed in charge of a class of 27 pupils.  Instruction was in arithmetic, catechism, reading and writing in both French and English.  She continued this until 1913.

In 1912, Albert Chevigny took charge of applying to the Department of Education for a school district official recognition.  On April 10, 1912, the official Alberta Gazette proclaimed and specified the boundaries of Plamondon School District #2696.  Further, on November 9, 1912, the boundaries were altered to include approximately 2 ½ miles north, east and south from the hamlet and 1 ½ west.

Permission was granted in 1913 by the Minister of Education to borrow $1,000.00 to build and equip a school and dig a well.  The school was built a quarter mile up the west hill.

In the same year, John Plamondon, who had received his grade twelve education in the United States, was hired as Plamondon’s first teacher.  His salary was approximately $500.00 a year.
